POS (R) CA-19 GOP Primary: Denham With Early Lead

Public Opinion Strategies (R) CA-19 Poll conducted 2/8-2/9 of 350 Republican LVs, pdf here:

State Sen. Jeff Denham 28%
Fmr. Rep. Richard Pombo 12%

Caveat: this poll was conducted for Denham's campaign.  This is the strongly Republican seat being vacated by Rep. George Radanovich (R), but the GOP was unable to avoid the contentious primary they were hoping to.  But this poll indicates that Denham would start as the favorite over Pombo, who was defeated for re-election in the next-door 11th district 4 years ago.  Denham has a strong 43%/6% favorable rating, while Pombo is off to a weaker 24%/10% mark, and indeed if Pombo were to win the nomination it would likely complicate the GOP's chances of holding the seat, given Pombo's ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
