ILLINOIS-11, HALVORSON(D-inc.)
2008 Pres. Result: Obama wins 53%-45%.
2006 House Result: Weller wins 55%-45%.
2008 House Result: Halvorson wins 59%-35%.
Democrat Debbie Halvorson had this seat practically gift-wrapped for her in 2008: her Republican opponent dropped out shortly after he won the Republican Primary, the Republican chosen to replace him was very weak, and Obama did very well at the top of the ticket in this swing district. But that doesn't mean she's not a strong candidate: she was the first female President of the Illinois State Senate, she's an excellent fundraiser, and her 24-point margin was extremely impressive. So much so, in fact, that I considered her safe for a 2nd term even as it becomes increasingly clear that this will be a Republican year. But the GOP seems high on Iraq War Vet Adam Kinzinger, who won the Republican Primary on Tuesday with a convincing 64% of the vote. He still has a lot of work to do after he spent much of his money on the Primary, but Halvorson now can't afford to take this one for granted.
STRONG ADVANTAGE FOR HALVORSON.
