Quinnipiac NY-SEN (S): Gillibrand In Potentially Tough Shape

Quinnipiac New York Poll conducted 12/7-12/13 of 1692 RVs, including 719 Democrats:

Democratic Primary:

NYC Comptroller William Thompson 41%
Sen. Kirstin Gillibrand 28%

General Election:

Fmr. NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) 50%
Sen. Kirstin Gillibrand (D) 40%

Fmr. NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) 52%
NYC Comptroller William Thompson (D) 36%

This poll indicates what has been clear for some time: that Gillibrand is very vulnerable is she were to receive a high-profile challenge from either party. Thompson has become a bit of a hero among Democrats for his surprisingly close loss to Mike Bloomberg last month, and he might be just the right candidate to run. This poll shows him leading Gillibrand in a potential matchup, thanks in large part to his 65%-11% lead among blacks. As for a General Election, the race would be competitive if Giuliani ran, but not otherwise. There's still nothing official from Giuliani, but it doesn't sound like he's making any moves behind the scenes that would indicate a run.

OVERWHELMING ADVANTAGE FOR GILLIBRAND.
