Rasmussen Arizona Poll conducted 11/18 of 570 Republican LVs:
Sen. John McCain 45%
Fmr. Rep. J.D. Hayworth 43%
Minuteman Founder Chris Simcox 4%
A shocking result in Arizona, where the GOP's nominee for President last year would be in the fight of his political life if Hayworth were to run. Hayworth would be a formidable candidate, a former Congressman well-known in conservative circles who could probably raise plenty of money if he decided to get in. But he isn't without his flaws, namely that his outspoken style rubs some people the wrong way, and he also was defeated for re-election to his Republcian-leaning house seat in 2006. But while McCain has a strong favorable mark of 74%/24%, more Republicans view Hayworth very favorably (37%) than view McCain very favorably (35%).
OVERWHELMING ADVANTAGE FOR McCAIN.
