NY-19: Republican Ball Leaves Race

One seat the GOP hopes to target next year is Democratic Rep. John Hall, who represents New York's 19th Congressional District north of NYC. For a time, it looked like their candidate would be Assemblyman Greg Ball (R), who had posted solid fundraising numbers so far and even released a poll earlier this week showing him just 5 points behind the incumbent. But that's when the problems started: it was revealed that Ball's poll was only of part of the district, infuriating the folks at Roll Call who published the poll (hence the reason I say partisan polls should always be taken with a grain of salt). And this weekend Ball announced his departure from the race, saying he would run for the State Senate instead. But the good news for the Republicans is that they have a strong backup plan in ophthalmologist Nan Hayworth, who also has done a solid job with fundraising and may not have some of the baggage that Ball did. In fact, in the 3rd quarter, she actually raised more money ($168K) than Hall did ($132K).

SIGNIFICANT ADVANTAGE FOR HALL.
