Denno-Noor MI-GOV Primaries: Hoekstra And Cherry Lead

Denno-Noor Michigan Poll conducted 11/12-11/17 of 950 LVs:

Republican Primary:

Rep. Pete Hoekstra 21%
Attorney General Mike Cox 15%
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard 13%
Businessman Rick Snyder 5%
State Sen. Tom George 3%

Democratic Primary:

Lt. Gov. John Cherry 20%
State House Speaker Andy Dillon 6%
Fmr. Michigan State University Football Coach George Perles 6%
State Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith 2%
Fmr. State Rep. John Freeman 2%

Hoekstra continues to poll nicely in the Republican Primary, although with 37% undecided, the race remains very much wide open. Hoekstra continues to do very well in Western Michigan, part of which he represents in Congress, and that may give him an advantage if the other candidates split the vote in the rest of the state. I still think Cox's experience of running statewide will give him the advantage eventually, but Hoekstra is proving to be formidable.

Cherry is the clear leader on the Democratic side at this early stage, but the fact that 59% of Democrats are undecided at this point is a sign that Democrats don't seem particularly enthusiastic about any of the choices. Cherry is likely to win, but given how quickly the state party has gotten behind him and that he's been elected statewide before, he needs to win convincingly. The General Election is currently rated as a SLIGHT ADVANTAGE FOR THE REPUBLICANS.
