Howey-Gauge Indiana Poll conducted 8/29-8/30 of 600 LVs:
Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) 53%
Fmr. Rep. Jill Long Thompson (D) 35%
Daniels has turned things around big time in Indiana, where just a year ago it looked like he was no better than 50/50 to win another term. But after a rough first year or two, he has avoided much controversy more recently, and he has also been helped by his fundraising ability and the divisive Democratic Primary. Thompson's low name ID (51% who have a solid opinion of her compared to 84% who have a solid opinion of Daniels) is definitely responsible for at least part of her deficit, but she's running out of time to close that gap. This poll, coupled with last month's SUSA poll which showed Daniels up 14, seems to warrant a rating change.
Significant►STRONG ADVANTAGE FOR DANIELS.
