Rasmussen Texas Poll conducted 8/21 of 500 LVs:
McCain 54%
Obama 44%
Obama's hanging around in Texas, way ahead of Kerry's 23 point loss here in 2004, but there's no way he carries the state barring a 1964-esque landslide. Voters are split on Obama with 50% viewing him favorably and 49% viewing him unfavorably, but 62% have a positive view of McCain. Obama does pull 14% of Republicans, but 16% of Democrats back McCain, who leads by 16 among Independents.
STRONG ADVANTAGE FOR McCAIN.
