SV GA-SEN: Chambliss In Good Shape, Dem Race Up For Grabs

Strategic Vision Georgia Poll conducted 6/27-6/29 of 800 LVs:

Democratic Primary:

DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones 25%
TV Reporter Dale Cardwell 22%
Former State Rep. Jim Martin 17%
Scientist Rand Knight 14%
Businessman Josh Lanier 6%

General Election Matchups:

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) 57%
DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones (D) 27%

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) 58%
TV Reporter Dale Cardwell (D) 29%

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) 57%
Former State Rep. Jim Martin (D) 28%

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) 58%
Scientist Rand Knight (D) 28%

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) 58%
Businessman Josh Lanier (D) 25%

Jones continues to lead in the Democratic Primary, but it looks like the other candidates are splitting the vote enough so that there is almost certainly going to be a runoff. Jones is the only African-American candidate running, so in a runoff he could have a tough time given his high unfavorable ratings and the fact that black voters often don't turn out well in runoffs; the primary is 7/15 and the runoff would be 8/5. SV continues to show Chambliss much further ahead than Rasmussen (who has about a 15-20 point lead for Chambliss), but the fact that Chambliss currently pulls 57%-58% with only 53% approval is an indication that some of his support here is a bit soft.

STRONG ADVANTAGE FOR CHAMBLISS.
