SUSA KY-02: Democrat Boswell With Slight Edge

SurveyUSA KY-02 Poll conducted 6/27-6/29 of 545 RVs:

State Sen. David Boswell (D) 47%
State Sen. Brett Guthrie (R) 44%

This is a pretty shocking result, in this, the most Republican district in Kentucky that the GOP has been widely expected to hold this year even with the retirement of Rep. Ron Lewis (R). Republicans are pointing out that Boswell probably has higher name ID at this point-he's been elected to several different offices for 30 years and has been in the State Senate since 1990, while Guthrie's election to the State Senate in 1998 was his first bid for public office. But still, for the Democrats to be leading in a district that went 65%-34% for Bush in 2004 is pretty astounding. Normally, Democrats crossover in large numbers to vote for the Republicans in federal races, but here only 16% of Democrats support Guthrie. Normally, voters who regularly attend church service vote solidly Republican, but Guthrie carries them by just 48%-43%.

Strong►SIGNIFICANT ADVANTAGE FOR GUTHRIE.
