Rasmussen GA-SEN: Martin Would Be Much More Competitive Against Chambliss

Rasmussen Georgia Poll conducted 7/17 of 500 LVs:

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) 51%
Fmr. State Rep. Jim Martin (D) 40%

Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) 59%
DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones (D) 29%

This poll was conducted last Thursday, two days after Georgia's Democratic Primary-how this might be affecting the numbers here is unclear. But what is clear is that Chambliss would be much better off if Jones is able to defeat Martin in the 8/5 runoff. But the runoff could be an uphill battle for Jones, who is African-American, as black votes generally turn out less in runoffs than in primaries. But even if Martin is able to win the runoff, he still has an uphill battle, as 61% of Georgia voters have a favorable opinion of Chambliss.
