Research2000/DailyKos Alaska Poll conducted 7/14-7/16 of 600 LVs:
Fmr. State House Minority Leader Ethan Berkowitz (D) 51%
Rep. Don Young (R) 40%
These numbers are virtually unchanged from May, when Berkowitz led 50%-40%. Normally, with numbers like this you'd be looking at all-but-guaranteed turnover, but it's not quite that simple for the Democrats-first Young has to get through a contested primary against Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell and State Rep. Gabrielle LeDoux. Parnell is the more formidable challenger of the two, but LeDoux could pull enough anti-Young votes to allow the incumbent to sneak through the primary. The GOP had better hope Young doesn't make it through the primary-61% of Alaska voters have an unfavorable opinion of their Congressman. Berkowitz is considered the favorite in the Democratic Primary, having signfiacntly outraised 2006 nominee Diane Benson in the 2nd Quarter.
SLIGHT ADVANTAGE FOR THE DEMOCRATS, pending the results of the state's 8/26 primary.
