In-depth results for New Mexico's Congressional Primaries are available here.
NM-SEN: The Republican Primary here was neck-and-neck between the state's two Republican RepresentativeS, Steve Pearce from Southern New Mexico's 2nd district and Heather Wilson from Albuquerque's 1st district. But in the end, Wilson's 66%-34% win in Bernalillo County, home to Albuqerque, wasn't quite enough to overcome Pearce's wide lead in the rest of the state. But this is likely to be Pearce's final victory of the year, as popular Democratic Rep. Tom Udall has polled way ahead of Pearce and he was able to stockpile cash without having a primary opponent. STRONG ADVANTAGE FOR UDALL.
NM-01: This is Wilson's open seat, a very competitive district that Wilson held after a series of very close races. Republicans are very optimistic about their candidate, Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White, who crushed State Sen. Joe Carraro 82%-18% in the primary on Tuesday. On the Democratic side, Albuquerque Councilman Martin Heinrich won easily in the four-candidate field by 43%-25% over his nearest opponent, former NM Secretary of State Rebecca Vigil-Giron. This race looks very tight, but the primary results lead me to believe White has the edge here. Slight Dem►SLIGHT ADVANTAGE FOR WHITE.
NM-02: Given the fact that the conservative Pearce easily held this seat, it's not too surprising that the 2nd district is considered strongly Republican territory. The Democratic Primary here was the close race, with former Lea County Commissioner Harry Teague edging Dona Ana County Commissioner 52%-48%. The home counties were key: Teague won Lea County 84%-16%, but McCamley won Dona Ana by a less impressive 64%-36%. The winner of the 5 candidate Republican Primary with 32% of the vote was restaurateur Ed Tinsley, who lost to Pearce in the Primary for this seat in 2002. SIGNIFICANT ADVANTAGE FOR TINSLEY.
NM-03: With all three of New Mexico's Representatives running for the Senate due to Pete Domenici's retirement, all 3 of the House seats are open. But Udall's Northern New Mexico seat is the only one not really expected to be competitive. With the district's Democratic tendencies, the Democratic Primary was particulary critical here. The big winner was State Public Regulation Commission Chair Ben Lujan, who defeated real estate developer Dan Wiviott 42%-26%. On the Republican side, construction contractor Dan East won 54%-46%, but Lujan should easily hold this seat for the Democrats in November. OVERWHELMING ADVANTAGE FOR LUJAN.
