Montana's filing deadline was Wednesday, so let's take a look at the state's House race. The state has only one congressional district, and it appears to be safely in Republican hands.
MT-AL (Rep. Denny Rehberg, R) 2004 Vote: Bush 59%-39%. There was talk last year that Rehberg might run for the Senate against Max Baucus, but he decided early on that he would run for re-election to the House seat. A Mason-Dixon poll last year showed 59% of Montana voters would support him over a generic Democrat, compared to 26% who would support the Democrat. Three Democrats are running: former State House Speaker John Driscoll, attorney Jim Hunt, and farmer Bob Candee. OVERWHELMING ADVANTAGE FOR REHBERG.
